Your iPhone cannot find the receiver?
Updated 11 October 2026 · Sotto 1.0.11
Allow Sotto to use your local network, put the iPhone and receiver on the same LAN, and try the receiver’s IP address directly. A receiver connected by Ethernet can work with an iPhone on Wi-Fi.
Check these in order
- Allow Local Network access. On iPhone, open Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network and enable Sotto. Open Sotto and try connecting again. If Sotto is not listed, start receiver setup in the app to trigger the permission request. Apple explains this permission.
- Use the same local network. Connect the iPhone to your home Wi-Fi. The receiver can use Wi-Fi or Ethernet on that same network. Guest networks and client isolation can stop devices reaching one another, even when both have internet access. A VPN can also affect local routing.
- Test with the receiver powered on. For standby control, check the receiver’s Network Control or IP Control setting. On the AVR-X3800H, Network Control → Always On keeps the network available in standby. Menu wording varies by model, and this setting increases standby power use. Denon’s explanation.
- Enter the IP address by hand. Find the receiver’s current IP address in its network information screen. Enter it during Sotto setup, or in the receiver’s connection settings, then use Test Connection. Automatic discovery uses Bonjour; it can fail even when direct IP control works.
- Check for a competing controller. Close other receiver-control apps and temporarily stop another controller’s active connection. Some receivers allow only one control connection. Try Sotto again once the other controller has disconnected.
What the result tells you
- Manual IP works, discovery does not: use the direct address and investigate Bonjour or multicast routing on your network.
- It works only while powered on: check the receiver’s standby network-control setting.
- Nothing can reach the receiver: another remote app may not fix a network or permission problem. Check the receiver’s network connection first.
Still stuck?
Use Settings → Send Feedback in Sotto. Include your exact model, iPhone/iOS version, whether manual IP works, and whether the receiver is on or in standby. You can choose to attach a redacted diagnostics report; sending it is optional. Contact support.
Sotto works on your local network. It does not offer control over cellular or from another city, and setup does not require exposing receiver ports to the internet.
Get Sotto
For iPhone with iOS 18 or later. Every feature is free; tips are optional. The iPhone and receiver need to be on the same local network.
